On-Demand Foil Printing on Leather Using a Laser Decorator
Screen printing and full-color UV inkjet printing are commonly used for decorating leather materials. On the other hand, there is also a traditional method called "foil stamping," in which a foil film is partially transferred using a stamping die to apply a gold, silver or metallic decoration. For example, it is often used to personalize a notebook cover made of genuine leather or synthetic leather by printing a name or corporate logo in foil.
Today, digital foil printing methods are also being introduced. The LD-300 Laser Decorator enables on - demand digital foil printing. Unlike conventional stamping methods, the LD-300 uses a digitally controlled laser to heat foil, eliminating the need for a brass stamp die, which is required for foil stamping. This means that the lead time required to produce dies can be reduced entirely, and printing can be started immediately upon receiving an order, making it suitable for personalization and in-store decoration services.
Unlike a traditional foil stamping machine that manually applies several tons of pressure at high temperatures, a feature of this machine is that it is safe and easy for anyone to operate. The product size is small and fits on a desk in a store, kiosk or home.
The product is compatible with a wide range of leather materials, from genuine leather to synthetic leather (*1). Genuine leather goes particularly well with hard, smooth-finished leathers, such as vegetable-tanned materials. On the other hand, grainy leather with a heavily textured surface, like embossed or shrink leather, is not suitable as the foil will not be able to transfer to the grooves between the bumps.
(*1)The degree of quality and adhesion of the foil to the material should be determined by a pre-test.
